Calf Pasture and Shady Beach information

Location: Norwalk, CT

Parking: very limited and pricy – can run anywhere from $20 – $65 per non-resident vehicle, depending on when you arrive.

The beach can also be accessed via Metro-North Railroad.

Picnic tables cost $5 for residents and $25 for non-residents.

Background

The area was literally a cow pasture as it was used by CT colonists for grazing cows in the 17th century.

Aside from a beach, there is a fishing pier, playground, boatramp, sand courts for volleyball and bocce, a skateboarding park, baseball and softball game area, basketball courts, restrooms, and restaurants.

Our Impressions

This is a very small beach as it is only ¾ of a mile long but very cute with small pier for fishermen.

This beach is not very non-resident friendly.  Parking and picnic table prices are sure to keep most outsiders away.

Our plan was to do a 5 mile run but once we arrived, we decided to turn it into a hike.

Our walk was incredible.  We enjoyed walking along the shore and then relaxing on the pier.  We saw man swimming in the same direction as the current who couldn’t get back to shore.  He had to hold on to the post of the fishing pier and hope someone would rescue him.  His wife on the pier called 911 but we did not stay long enough to see him rescued.
